In July of 2015, I travelled to Lisbon, Portugal for a collaborative project with other students from Dalhousie University as well as many other Universities from around Europe. Under the direction of Cristina Verissimo we joined in the second phase of designing to maximize the potential of the use of cork within architecture. Our group designed an acoustic panel with interchangeable pieces giving it the ability to be tuned to a particular space. During our time in Lisbon we learned a lot about the connection between cork and the Portuguese culture. The pattern for our acoustic panel was designed based on traditional Portuguese tile patterns.
