The ribbon is a formal strategy derived from the intention of weaving the community together in an engaging and spatially dynamic way. This project was designed during the comprehensive studio at Carleton University in Fall of 2018. As a structure the ribbon becomes a concrete band that starts as a path in the landscape and wraps itself around the building. It moves from floor to wall to ceiling and around again. It creates both interior and exterior spaces where the community can walk along side, on top of, or underneath the ribbon. It peels up in places to indicate circulation from one level to the next that also create a dialog between various workshops and more public areas.
